The Spike TV network and independent comic book publisher Zenescope Entertainment have announced the fall 2011 publications of a 200-page graphic novel based on the Spike TV series 1000 Ways to Die.  Now heading into its third season, 1000 Ways to Die is a “docufiction” show that takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to stories of death derived from myths, fiction, and real life.  The series uses live-action recreations, expert testimony, and CGI animations to depict the bizarre demises that it chronicles.

The first ever 1000 Ways to Die graphic novel will take the same black-humor laden tone to highlight the comedic irony in the crazy ways people can get themselves killed.  This sort of approach has a long history in comic books—just check out the EC horror and crime comics published in the early 1950s for a healthy heaping of morbid irony served up with copious amounts of narrative glee.
