There have been plenty of changes announced so far as DC Comics attempts to forge “a more modern, diverse DC Universe,” and now it appears that the “new chapter” in the life of The Man of Steel will essentially erase his highly publicized marriage to Lois Lane, a transmedia spectacle that was dubbed “The Event of the Century” in DC’s Wedding Album issue, and which echoed events in the ABC TV series Lois & Clark, and which somehow has endured some 15 years from 1996 to the present.
DC Publisher Dan DiDio confirmed a major change-up in the Superman/Lois Lane relationship, when he was asked about Superman’s marital status by NBC New York’s PopcornBiz blog. “Let’s just say it’s being reexamined because it’s something that I think is so valuable to the character’s story that you really want to explore all facets of it. Not just as it exists currently.”
OK, so DiDio pretty much put the kibosh on the Superman/Lois Lane marriage, but what about the rest of the rumor—will Supes be taking up with Wonder Woman and create the ultimate “power couple” in the New DCU? We may have to wait until the fall or even later to find out the answer to that one.
