The new trailer for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger clocks in at two minutes and 30 seconds of pulse-pounding action. The trailer provides a great overview of the film's narrative as it follows the transformation of Steve Rogers from 97-pound weakling to super soldier. It includes a telling scene in basic training as the rail-thin Rogers throws himself on what he thinks is live grenade as the rest of his platoon runs for cover. Hayley Atwell, who plays Cap's love interest Peggy Carter, is featured prominently in the trailer.
The trailer also provides the first real look at Rogers' chief adversaries, the Nazis' deep science Hydra division and its leader The Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) as well as a jet-powered flying wing based on one of the designs German scientists were working on at the end of the war.
Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger debuts nationwide on July 22nd in both 3-D and 2-D.
