The start up game company Blue Kabuto has announced plans to release a “dual play” card deck at Gen Con next month. The Cookie Fu Clan Fortune Decks are designed for use with the Cookie Fu collectible dice game or as a stand-alone game without the dice.
Released as a second edition in 2010, Cookie Fu is a collectible dice game that pits martial arts fighters against each other, using a variety of cookie-themed moves. Combinations of symbols on the custom-made dice are matched to a player’s library of moves to attack or defend. The original game included an actual fortune cookie, with a special move inside.
Apparently, collecting, sorting, and referencing the tiny slips of fortune cookie paper to find the right moves was difficult for some players, so Blue Kabuto has produced the Clan Fortune Deck. The cards in the decks show the various symbol combinations required to perform the martial arts moves in the game.
Each Clan Fortune Deck also includes rules for “Grandmaster Chi Battle.” This complete game can be played without the Cookie Fu dice, using only the cards in the deck.
There will be three different Clan Fortune Decks, one for each of the three “clans” included in the collectible dice game. Each deck is a fixed set of 56 cards, and will have a suggested retail price of $9.99.
