Reports from unnamed insiders indicate that Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer have turned in their screenplay for a Doctor Strange movie to Marvel Studios. Donnelly and Oppenheimer wrote a draft of the Cowboys & Aliens and the upcoming Conan the Barbarian.
Twitch.com is reporting, based on anonymous sources, that Marvel is moving ahead with the project. The studio has sent the script to a “short list” of potential directors, and is clearly looking for someone “to oversee continued development.”
What are the chances that this saga of the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe will ever escape from “developmental hell” and make it to the big screen? Still probably pretty slim, but at least it appears that Marvel is continuing to develop the property, which seems like a long shot, but which just might make in some form, if not to the Cineplex, perhaps as a TV movie. It might help if Donnelly and Oppenheimer’s Conan the Barbarian fantasy film, which opens August 19th, is at least a modest hit.
