Dark Horse Entertainment and Universal have tapped Melissa Wallack, who wrote the screenplay for Relativity Media’s Snow White movie, to craft the screen adaptation of Emily the Strange, the punky little Goth girl icon created by Rob Reger. Dark Horse has published comic books based on Reger’s creation and has been developing a movie project since 2008. In 2010, Universal, which has a first-look deal with Dark Horse, took on the project with Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) attached to star as the feline-friendly heroine (see “Chloe Moretz in ‘Emily the Strange’”).
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision points out the irony involved in Universal’s hiring of Wallack, since Uni is producing its own Snow White movie, Snow White and the Huntsman, which will compete directly with the Wallack-penned Snow White from Relativity, which stars Lily Collins and Julia Roberts, and is slated for a March 26, 2012 release.
