The 2011 Harvey Awards, which are named in honor of the legendary cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman, were presented at the Baltimore Comic Con on Saturday night. Among the key winners were Scott Snyder, Stephen King, and Rafeael Albuquerque whose American Vampire published by Vertigo, won “Best New Series,” Darwyn Cooke, who won “Best Artist” and “Best Cartoonist” for Richard Stark’s Parker: The Outfit published by IDW, Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez, who won “Best Continuing or Limited Series” for Love & Rockets, Vol.3 published by Fantagraphics, and Bryan Lee O’Malley who won “Best Original Graphic Album” for Scott Pilgrim Vol.6: Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour published by Oni Press.
Like Darwyn Cooke, Roger Landridge was a double winner. He won “Best Writer” for his work on Marvel’s Thor: The Mighty Avenger and also received a “Special Award for Humor in Comics” for his work on Boom! Studios’ The Muppet Show comics. IDW’s Dave Steven’s The Rocketeer: Artists Edition was a double winner garnering the “Best Domestic Reprint Project” award and a “Special Excellence in Presentation” nod. Dark Horse nabbed “Best Edition of Foreign Material” for Blacksad and “Best Graphic Album Previously Published” for Jill Thompson and Evan Dorkin’s Beasts of Burden. Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba won the “Best Single Issue” award for Daytripper published by Vertigo, and Stan Lee took home a “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
