Popular game designer Martin Wallace, most famous for Age of Steam and Automobile, has designed a war game based on the pivotal First Battle of Bull Run, the opening battle of the American Civil War 150 years ago.  The new game will be titled Test of Fire: Bull Run 1861, and it will be released by Mayfair Games on September first.

Test of Fire is designed to be an introductory-level wargame.  It uses simple mechanics, dice, and cards to resolve command and combat in the game.  Mayfair’s goal is to attract fans of board games to more strategic wargames by combining a low barrier to entry with the perennially popular subject of the American Civil War.

Test of Fire is the first in a series of Wallace-designed American Civil War board games planned by Mayfair.  It will have a suggested retail price of $30.00, and is intended for two players, ages ten and up.
