Disney has announced the December 13th release of Joe Johnston’s The Rocketeer on Blu-ray (MSRP $26.50).  The 20th Anniversary edition of the film based on Dave Steven’s classic adventure comic features a new state-of-the-art digital restoration and enhanced high definition sound.

 

Disney’s release of The Rocketeer should come in the wake of the home entertainment debut of Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, another comic book adaptation that is steeped in “retro cool.”  Fans of The Rocketeer movie that starred Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, and Timothy Dalton have been clamoring for a high definition release for years.

 

Last year IDW released the Eisner-Award winning The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition (see “The Rocketeer: Artists Edition), which gave Dave Steven’s artwork on The Rocketeer the kind of treatment it deserved—now it appears that Disney is doing the same thing for Johnston’s movie based on the late Dave Steven’s masterwork.
