AMC has released a new poster for The Walking Dead Season 2 and it shows Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) brandishing a pistol as he runs toward Hershel’s farm, the location where much of the action in Season 2 takes place.  But don’t expect the isolated rural location to offer much in the way of safety for the band of survivors that now also includes Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson of Justified), who is a veterinarian, which means that he will be the little band's de facto doctor, his daughter Maggie (Lauren Cohan of Supernatural), and his redneck field hand Otis (the portly Pruitt Taylor Vince who played Paul Newman’s best friend in the highly underrated Nobody’s Fool in 1994).

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman talked with TV Guide about Season 2, “It’s going to be intense.  This world will get more dangerous. In the first season there was a lot of time spent at that camp where they were fine.  Now we’ve taken that away from them…we’re really going to just expand the world a lit bit.  We’re hitting the road.  They’re moving, and there’s going to be a lot of cool stuff."  Chances are, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, things "ain't gonna work (out) on Hershel's farm too long."

Season 2 of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC on Sunday October 16th at 9 pm (ET, PT) with a 90-minute episode (see “The Walking Dead Bows With 90-Minute Episode”).  Kirkman’s 14-volume (and counting) series of The Walking Dead graphic novels is the #1 GN property in both the direct and bookstore markets so far in 2011, and two board games based on The Walking Dead (one based on the graphic novels, and one on the TV series) are due out this fall (see “Cryptozoic’s The Walking Dead Board Game”).
