Spoiler Alert:  In the first of what promises to be a wave of announcements from the upcoming New York Comic Con, DC Comics, via the New York Post, has revealed a major change in the origin story of Wonder Woman that is planned for Wonder Woman #3, which is written by Brian Azzarello and is due out in November.  Rather than the traditional origin story, which had the Amazonian warrior formed out of clay by her mother Queen Hippolyta and mystically brought to life by the Greek goddesses without male intervention, Wonder Woman learns that she actually has a father, albeit one with feet (and perhaps other members) of clay, the philandering Zeus, the patriarch of the numerous deities in the perpetually squabbling Greek Pantheon.

As the Post points out in its story, which appears under the snappy title, “Zeus Your Daddy, Diana,” this marks “a seismic change in the character’s mythology.” Azzarello told the Post, “Everybody’s got a father, even if he is not the nicest guy in the world.  There are going to be some family issues, the Olympians are the original crime family.  They’re pretty nasty people, but they can do a lot of good.  They’re like a mirror of human beings, turned up to 11.”

DC’s co-publisher Jim Lee indicates that this might not be the only major change to come out of the “New 52” re-launch, telling the Post, “We’re approaching all the classic characters in a way that feels true to their origins, but thoroughly modern.”
