Rembert Parker of Reader Copies, Anderson Indiana read the Viz interview regarding the cancellation of the successful Shonen Jump ("Why Cancel One of the Bestselling Comics in the U.S?") and had this to say.

While reading the article about the plans to go digital with Shonen Jump I couldn't help but wonder about a key ingredient of the print version of Shonen Jump--the Yu-Gi-Oh! promo cards that are included several times a year.  The only reason customers buy the magazine in our store is for the promo cards, and I'm fairly certain none of them will buy the digital version (and clearly we won't be ordering twenty copies a few times a year since there won't be any more cards).

We'll know for sure next year if the increase in new digital customers offsets the loss of card customers who aren't really interested in the comics.
