Games are going to be an area of increasing emphasis at Barnes & Noble, with 1000 square foot sections rolling out in over 500 stores for the holiday season. The company discussed its strategy at the Liberty Media investor’s conference last week, according to PaidContent, describing toys and games as a “massive market.” B&N’s goal is to become “the world’s best educational toy and game destination,” the company said.
B&N’s toy and game sales are up 53% over last year so far in 2011, the company said. That’s on top of big increases in 2010, when it reported that holiday sales were up 48% over the 2009 season (see “B&N Games Sales Up 48%”).
