Joss Whedon’s Avengers film will open in 3D as well as 2D, the studio announced last week. Although the film had originally been announced as 2D, it’s hard for studios to resist the revenues higher ticket prices for 3D showings bring, especially on big budget tentpoles.  The Avengers will release May 4, 2012 (see “New ‘Avengers’ Pics”).

Marvel also grabbed April 4, 2014, for an un-named film.  Marvel has also scheduled an un-named release for May 16, 2014.
