A video of the Tokyo press conference featuring Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (along with producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach) provides a number of revealing details about the plot and the characters of the new film.  There will be a strong connection between Peter Parker and the villain in the new film, who is Dr. Curt Connors aka The Lizard (see “New Spidey Villain Arrested at Comic-Con”).  In Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot it appears that Connors not only functions as something of a mentor to Peter Parker, but also has a very close connection to Peter’s girl friend Gwen Stacy.

Among the other tidbits that make watching this 50-minute press conference worthwhile is the fact that Webb has largely attempted to avoid using excessive special effects and kept the effects and stunts used in the film “firmly grounded in reality.”  It is also very interesting to hear Garfield and Stone, who are both very serious and sophisticated actors, discuss their roles and their relationship in the movie.

Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man movie is slated to debut over the July 4th weekend.
