Rick Newman of Pet Shop Comics and Collectibles in Louisville, Kentucky saw the news about Marvel's revamp of Rawhide Kid (see 'Rawhide Kid Is No Straight Shooter') and had this to say.

 

Can anyone tell me where it is ever intimated that Rawhide Kid is homosexual? I've read Rawhide Kid for 30+ years and must have missed it. This is about hype and publicity and nothing more from Marvel. None of my customers want to read this. How about making comics that are intellectually stimulating and can reach out to ALL ages and social groups? That's where the real 'art' is, and not in all of this 'let's revamp and pervert these great characters as much as we can' crap. The sales of Marvel are going to keep slipping no matter what movies they put out.

 

As a minister who happens to own a very successful comic book and toy shop, it's getting increasingly difficult to find comics properties that don't cross the line of decency. It's almost getting to the point of us carrying new comics on a subscription basis only. Does anyone else out there have this problem? We're just trying to make an honest living and it's becoming increasingly difficult with Marvel turning away masses of formerly loyal (to Marvel) customers.  Oh well. I've said my piece.
