Ian Hine of Dead Universe Comics in Aylesbury, England read the recent ICv2 article reporting that some retailers are experiencing lower DC pre-New 52 graphic novel sales due to the New 52 relaunch (see "New 52 Hurting DC Graphic Novel Sales?") and shares his store's experience.
I'm a UK based retailer and love to read ICv2 every day, more so than the standard comic news sites. Hard-hitting, accurate, non-biased info is where I feel most comfortable, so a big thanks for putting this together in such an impressive manner. :)
I just read reports that some retailers are finding the impressive sales on the New DC 52, impacting on pre-New 52 trade paperback sales. That is not the case at Dead Universe Comics. I find it hard to see how more footfall and overall growing sales across the board, which is largely due to the New 52, could have a detrimental impact anywhere in store. If anything we are selling more DC TPB's than ever before and many more than Marvel and other publishers combined. Due to such an influx of interest in the New DC, people are also happy to branch out, trying the more prominent older story arcs, with the emphasis on quality not continuity.
So although the New 52 has provided a new continuity/start point and no more 70 years of brain frying continuity, it hasn't dampened peoples desire to try what came before if presented in it's entirety (i.e., graphic novels/trades or even sets, mini series & story arcs we put together in packs). Overall the New 52 has provided us with amazing footfall, repeat business and ever growing sales week in week out. Using a back catalogue of great product, though not just DC, combined with pro actively communicating with our customers, everything that is of an above average quality is selling or sellable.
