The Billy Wright collection, auctioned by Heritage Auctions on Wednesday, brought an unexpectedly high price of $3.5 million, according to Newsday.  The collection of 345 key Golden Age books purchased by Wright as a boy was expected to bring only about $2 million (see “$2 Million Comic Collection”).

Detective Comics #27 (CGC 6.5) was the top book in the auction at $523,000 including the buyer’s premium.  Other top prices paid included Action Comics #1 ($299,000), Batman #1 ($275,000), and Captain America #2 ($114,000).
