Stan Lee Media lost another round in its long-running litigation with namesake Stan Lee when the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York ruled that the company’s attempt to intervene in (settled) litigation between Lee and Marvel over royalties for TV and movie rights was filed too late (over five years after final judgment), according to Variety. The next step for the company was filing a motion in a case it has going against Lee in Federal District Court in Los Angeles arguing that its case should proceed because the Appeals Court didn’t specifically say that it couldn’t.
The company’s litigation against Stan Lee appears to be part of a broader strategy to leverage legal claims to some kind of revenue; so far, it’s been unsuccessful (see “Stan Lee Media Loses ‘Conan’ Case”).
