It’s only been about a week since Man of Action Studios announced that it had three new projects in development (see "Man of Action Developments"), and now one of those projects, an adaptation of Duncan Rouleau’s 2009 Image Comic series The Great Unknown, has taken a major step forward as Saturday Night Live writer/director Jorma Taccone was announced as the director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line has picked up The Great Unknown, a droll tale about a slacker with delusions of grandeur and a significant streak of paranoia, who finds out that someone is actually monitoring his thoughts and stealing his ideas. New Line has tapped Michael Starrbury (Fully Automatic) to write the screenplay.
Taccone, who is a member of The Lonely Island comedy troupe (along with Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer), hasn’t exactly been crushing it as a director, his lone feature film credit is that stone cold turkey MacGruber, but fortunately Taccone’s digital shorts for SNL do indicate that he has considerable talent when dealing with the right subject—and The Great Unknown is a slacker saga that should be right in Taccone’s wheelhouse.
