The Alderac Entertainment Group is readying the first installments in its City-State of Tempest designer game line for an October, 2012 release. This high concept project involves an entire line of board games that share one carefully-crafted setting, the City-State of Tempest. The result is a sort of a melding of an in-depth RPG-type of setting with a series of board games that will share and exploit various aspects of that setting. The first three games will be released in October, with subesquent releases slated for 2013.
AEG has released more details about the first wave of games including the desginers involved. The first three games, which are due in October, include Dominare designed by Jim Pinto, the merchant-themed Mercante created by Jeff Tidball, and Courtier by Phillip DuBarry. Prices and details about the games will be released in the coming months, but it is fairly clear from the titles that Dominare will be concerned with gaining political control of the City-State of Tempest, while Mercante will likely be a merchant-themed, acquisitions-centered game, and Courtier will be all about advancement in a court-centric, monarchial system.
