The CW Network has announced that its new series Arrow, which is based on the DC Comics character The Green Arrow, will air on Wednesday nights at 8pm (ET, PT, 7pm CT, MT) starting this fall. Arrow will be followed by Supernatural, the horror action/adventure series created by Eric Kripke that has found favor with a sizable share of the geek audience.

Along with its schedule, the CW also released a first still from Arrow, which shows Stephen Amell, who plays playboy-turned-vigilante Oliver Queen, with his trusty bow. Judging from the still that shows Queen in mufti rather than his "Green Arrow togs" (see "First Look at TV’s Green Arrow"), it appears that the producers of Arrow may be following a similar strategy to the one employed by the Smallville producers that soft-pedaled the comic book elements of the saga during its initial season (see "No Tights, No Flights").

Arrow, which was created by Green Lantern scribes Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and Fringe producer Andrew Kreisberg, follows the adventures of Queen, who is something of wastrel until he is shipwrecked on a remote island where, out of necessity, he becomes a master archer as well as someone who is dedicated to make a difference once he returns to Starling City (changed from Star City in the comics).

In addition to Amell, the cast for Arrow includes Colin Donnell (as Tommy Merlyn), Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/Black Canary), Willa Holland (Thea Queen), Paul Blackthorne (Detective Quentin Lance), Susanna Thompson (Moira Queen), and David Ramsey (John Diggle).
