David Levine, the VP and General Manager of Disney XD Worldwide, has announced that the network has ordered a second season of the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. The series, which debuted on April 1st, is the keystone in a Marvel animated block on Sunday nights (see "'Ultimate Spider-Man' to Anchor Marvel Block"). The new Marvel series has nearly doubled the XD ratings in its time slot, and it is also the most popular offering on the Disney XD Website.
The creative team behind the Ultimate Spider-Man series features some of the top names in both comics and animation including the Man of Action Group (Ben 10), Paul Dini, Joe Quesada and Brian Michael Bendis. The series follows Spidey and his super-powered friends as they face challenges in school and with their S.H.I.E.L.D. training.
The second season of the Ultimate Spider-Man will find Spidey teaming up with an Avengers group that mirrors the cast of Joss Whedon’s hit movie, namely Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk.
