After setting a Tuesday record with $35 million, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man earned an estimated $23.4 on July 4th.  The Webslinger’s 4th of July total is well below the "Wednesday 4th record" of $29.1 million set by the original Transformers movie in 2009, but Sony’s Spider-Man reboot with $59.2 million earned in just two days is currently on track to bring in between $125 million and $150 million during its first six days in theaters.

 

While the drop from Tuesday to Wednesday was a big one, the prospects for the new Spider-Man film appear to be good.  Critics have been largely favorable (75% positive on Rotten Tomatoes), and audiences on Tuesday gave the film a solid "A-" CinemaScore with those under 18 giving it an even better "A" score.

 

So far at least Sony’s tentpole is putting the lie to those analysts who said it was too soon to reboot the franchise with a new trilogy that starts just ten years after the first trilogy began.  Webb’s $220 million film has also earned $50 million overseas (from just 11 territories).
