DC Comics has announced the new creative team that will take over its flagship Detective Comics with issue #13.  John Layman, whose high concept Chew comic for Image has been one of that publisher’s signal successes over the past two years, will bring his idiosyncratic vision to the DC Universe for the first time, while artist Jason Fabok (Dark Knight) will provide the interior art as well as the cover to Detective Comics #13, which ships to retail on October 3rd.

 

Although Layman has never worked on a DC comic book series before, he did write some ThunderCats issues for Wildstorm.  Layman, who created one of the most original crimesolvers in the history of detective fiction (both comic and prose) with Tony Chu, who literally eats his way to the solution of various bizarre crimes and conspiracies, is obviously excited at the prospect of adding his skewed perspective to the perpetually dark doings in Gotham: "Not only is this my first work within the DC Universe, but I get to work on one of DC’s undisputedly coolest and highest-profile characters.  I’m going to take a look at the role of criminal organizations within Gotham City, hopefully from a perspective that does not get considered very often (if at all).  From the symbiotic relationship a master criminal must have with Gotham in order to survive, to the lowly, often faceless criminal underling hoping to rise up the ranks.  All that, plus Batman’s gonna play with a bunch of crazy new toys and kick all kinds of butt."
