The socially conservative Florida Family Association has announced an email campaign that it hopes will convince Marvel’s parent company Disney to pull Astonishing X-Men #51, the landmark issue that features the first gay marriage in mainstream superhero comic book history, from distribution.  According to the FFA the comic book "has crossed the line by attempting to legitimize same sex marriage and asking kids to fantasize about their own gay wedding."

The FFA’s Website even claims "that the comic strip (sic) has a blank wedding that children can use to make their own same-sex wedding," which is apparently a reference to Phil Noto’s variant cover that appears to depict a wall covered with superhero wedding photos, one of which is blank.  Nine of the framed photos depict heterosexual unions, while one of the photos shows Northstar and Kyle from Astonishing X-Men #51—evidently a 9-1 ratio was deemed insufficient by the FFA.

The Florida Family Association asks its followers to email complaints to a large number of officials at Marvel and Disney, and provided email addresses for the executives, but it also included two high profile comic book retailing organizations as targets for its email barrage.  Midtown Comics from New York City, and the Texas-based Lonestar Comics were both included along with the Comic Book Resources news site.
