Constantin Films has acquired screen rights to Joe Golem and the Drowning City, an illustrated novel by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden that was published in March by St. Martin’s Press. Constantin has acquired the rights for director Alexy Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, and I, Robot) to write and direct in his native Australia.
Joe Golem and the Drowning City is steampunk saga that follows the activities of a diverse cast of characters including a teenage girl, a Victorian occult detective and his sidekick Joe Golem, an aging magician, a crazed scientist. According to Deadline, Mignola and Golden will serve as executive producers.
