Last March ICv2 reported that New Line had assigned writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, who had lots of TV experience writing for series like Jericho, Warehouse 13, Charlie’s Angels, and Human Target, to write a new adaptation of Bryan K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s Vertigo series Y: The Last Man (see "'Y: The Last Man' Movie Gets New Writers").
Now Vulture reports that "well-placed sources" are telling that the studio "is very pleased with the script from Federman and Scaia. The project has become “a priority” for the studio and New Line “has begun the process of meeting with director candidates to hire for the project."
Comic book fans can be excused for not holding their collective breath and hoping that this time, the film really will get made. After all they’ve endured nearly a decade of frustration with the project’s inability to make its way out of developmental hell. Two years ago Disturbia helmer D.J. Caruso left the project when he couldn’t convince the studio to make a Y: The Last Man trilogy of films rather than shoehorning the entire saga into one 2-hour movie (see "'Y: The Last Man' Loses Director").
