First appearing in The Incredible Hulk #449 (1997), the Thunderbolts has largely been a team comprised over the years of reformed super-villains.  The latest incarnation, headed to comic shops in December with Thunderbolts #1, will consist of Venom, Elektra, Deadpool, and the Punisher, along with team leader General "Thunderbolt" Ross, AKA the Red Hulk.

Written by Daniel Way (Deadpool) with art by Steve Dillon (Punisher MAX), Thunderbolts is part of the Marvel NOW! program (see "Marvel NOW The Answer to DC's 'New 52'"), which is a "shifting" of the Marvel Universe in the aftermath of Avengers vs. X-Men.  It’s part of the second wave of the Marvel NOW! titles (see "Marvel Teases Two More 2nd Wave Marvel NOW! Books").

An ongoing title, Thunderbolts is described as "a series about violence, war and the consequences of both."  Each issue will feature special “augmented reality” content available exclusive through the Marvel AR app, including cover recaps and behind-the-scenes information.
