Disney has released a new full 2.5-minute trailer for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, which stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.  While the first trailer for the film, which was released in October, concentrates on the action sequences involving a train (see "First 'Lone Ranger' Trailer"), the new trailer, which concludes with some pretty spectacular footage of a train derailment, provides much more in the way of backstory showing how the eponymous hero was abandoned to die in the desert and is saved by an encounter with Tonto.

 

Disney began production on The Lone Ranger in February, and the film is slated to hit theaters nationwide on July 3rd, 2013.  The production was not with out its hiccups. During an austerity wave that struck Hollywood with all the force of a Santa Ana wind, the studio pulled the plug on the film (see "Disney Torpedoes 'The Lone Ranger'"), only to reinstate the movie after Depp, director Verbinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer all agreed to reduce their fees for making the film.
