Rick Veitch has announced that he will be putting his Splash news and comment page, hosted on Comicon.com, on hiatus. Veitch, who brought New York Post-style headlines and a focus on toon culture and business news topics not covered by other sites to his efforts, will be missed. His final post cites his increasing writing workload as the main reason for suspending his efforts on the Splash.
We have been frequent visitors to the site since Veitch began his posts in 1998, for news on such fun topics as Peter Paul and the collapse of Stan Lee Media, intellectual property issues affecting the creative community, and the entertainment conglomerates. Our favorite Rick Veitch headline (and we're paraphrasing and probably losing something in the translation) was for a comic retailer obituary, which went something like 'Retailer Fills His Last Long Box.' Veitch held out hope that he might return to the Splash at some point in the future; let's hope so.
