Cinescape Online is reporting today that Madonna's Production Company, Maverick Films, has acquired the rights to Hurricane Entertainment's graphic novel Violent Messiahs: The Book of Job. The graphic novel collects the first eight issues of the comic series published by Image, which blends hardboiled crime action with superhero elements as the vigilante known as Citizen Pain battles against a serial killer known as The Family Man. Violent Messiahs looks like a good fit for Maverick Films, which has also optioned the offbeat Marvel title, Mort the Dead Teenager (see 'Tarantino To Produce Mort the Dead Teenager').
Hurricane Entertainment has strong Hollywood connections. The studio is publishing a Snake Plissken comic (based on the character from Escape From New York) through CrossGen (see 'CrossGen Lands Snake Plissken Comic'), although Violent Messiahs remains an Image book.
