Production I.G., the anime studio responsible for such stylish epics as Ghost In The Shell and Jin-Roh, announced at the Tokyo Anime Fair that the studio has produced approximately 10 minutes of animation footage that will be included in Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming feature, Kill Bill. Kill Bill, an homage to the Hong Kong action films that inspired Tarantino, was filmed in China and Japan earlier this year. The Production I.G. anime footage will appear in several sequences that will be used throughout the film.
Inside sources tell ICv2 that Tarantino's use of the anime sequences in Kill Bill marks a unique application of Japanese-style anime in a live-action film. It also demonstrates that the impact of anime on U.S. filmmakers is not limited to those who work in animation.
