WizKids will produce HeroClix and Dice-Building games (a la Quarriors) featuring the Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic animation library under license from 4K Media Inc., the companies announced today.  This brings together the #2 and #3 collectible game brands in the hobby channel (see "Top Collectible Games--Summer 2012") into one new product line, an undeniably potent combination.
The first Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix release will include around 50 figures in both two-player Starter and Booster Pack configurations.  Release is planned for "later this year," with expansions planned for 2014.

We caught up with WizKids CEO Justin Ziran with a few questions on the company's new license (see "WizKids CEO on 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'").

The license is exclusive for all world territories except Asia.  4K Media Inc. is the new wholly owned subsidiary of Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. (producer of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG) created out of assets acquired from 4Kids Entertainment last year (see "Top Ten Hobby Games Business Events of 2012").

WizKids parent NECA also obtained a Yu-Gi-Oh! license, for creation of collectibles and accessories for older collectors based on Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG art (see "'Yu-GI-Oh!' Collectibles and Accessories").
