The Wachowski (Matrix, V for Vendetta) siblings’ Sense8 has received a 10-episode order as an original series from Netflix. J. Michael Straczynski’s Studio JMS is also attached to the project. The story is "a gripping tale of minds linked and souls haunted."
Andy and Lana Wachowski explained why Straczynski was involved, and the origin of the concept. "We've wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy," they said. "Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox Sense8 was born."
Netflix has started to make a big impact with original programming; its House of Cards series, starring Kevin Spacey and directed by David Fincher (Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) was critically well received and will tie its customers more closely to the service, according to research reported by Deadline.
