The Free Comic Book Day committee has kicked off its national public relations campaign for this year's event, coming up on Saturday, May 3, on X2 premiere weekend.  With press across the country now receiving notice of the event, it's the ideal time for retailers to begin alerting local media that this national story has a local component via personal contacts, localized press releases, and other means (click here for the Diamond page with resources for retailers, including a fill-in-the-blank press release).

This 2.5 million comic giveaway in over 2000 stores can only be bigger than last year's event (see 'FCBD Bigger and Better than Ever').  The three goals of the event are to celebrate comics' rich history, to salute the medium's energy, vitality, and boundless creativity, and, most importantly, to invite new readers to visit their local comic shops and see what comics have to offer.

Note -- Dark Horse, the only publisher in our earlier article that had not decided on its FCBD title, will be providing retailers Rocket Comics:  Ignite, which will include three self-contained stories from upcoming Rocket series Syn, Lone, and Go Boy 7

Here are some other retailers' ideas for FCBD promotions:

'Bill Norris Jr. of New Age Comics on FCBD'

'Michael Tierney of Collector's Edition on FCBD'

'Corbet Wilkins of Captain Comics on Free Comic Book Day'

'Hafeez Amin of the Genesis Foundation on FCBD in Libraries'
