The Austin, Texas-based Pandasaurus Games has announced that it will be importing the sophisticated "worker placement" board game Yedo from the German game publisher Eggertspiele. Yedo, which was designed by Thomas Vande Ginste and Wolf Plancke, is set in Feudal Japan in 1605 with players assuming the roles of clan leaders in the city of Edo in the early years of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Pandasaurus has announced that Yedo will be available exclusively in North American markets from Southern Hobby Supply with the release of the game slated for June, 2013.
The object of the game is to gain the Shogun’s favor. Players can win Yedo by accumulating the most prestige points, which are acquired primarily by completing missions, but doing so requires that players acquire the necessary assets, and there are other ways of winning as well including managing to prevent the other players in the game from finishing their missions.
Players can also concentrate their resources on purchasing luxury imported gifts for the Shogun to shame their rivals or by wangling a private audience. Yedo involves lots of player interaction and its theme is extremely well-integrated with its mechanics, which makes for a board game that should have a special appeal to hardcore board gamers who enjoy sophisticated Euro-style games where the action takes place in well-realized exotic settings.
