Silver Pictures and Universal plan to remake Weird Science, based on an EC comic story and originally released in 1985, according to Deadline.  The original, directed by the now deceased John Hughes, was also produced by Joel Silver as the second film ever produced by Silver Pictures. 

A darker take is planned this time around, along the lines of 21 Jump Street, which was written by the screenwriter selected for Weird Science, Michael Bacall.

The original film also spawned a USA network TV series that ran 88 episodes in the mid-90s.
