The Japanese company Reds, which designed, imported, distributed and manufactured toys, has apparently gone out of business -- a bankruptcy that has potential ramifications for the U.S. market. Reds has done much of the work for many of Kaiyodo's recent action figure releases, and Kaiyodo is one of Diamond Comic Distributors' main suppliers of import toys. Although the extent of the effect that Reds' bankruptcy will have on Kaiyodo is not known at this time, Kaiyodo has already announced that numerous Reds-designed figures, including action figures from the still popular Neon Genesis Evangelion, will be delayed. ICv2 contacted Diamond V.P. of Purchasing Bill Schanes, who said that while it is still to early to know exactly what will happen, Diamond is 'attempting to work with Kaiyodo to continue the flow of new releases.' Schanes noted that not all the announced Kaiyodo imports will be affected, 'We'll see some items ship without interruption, while others may have delays involved.'
