Chaney Entertainment, run by Lon Chaney, Jr.’s heirs, has sued Universal Studios for $1 million in damages, alleging that the studio is using the actor’s likeness without a license, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The suit alleges that an agreement authorizing Universal to represent Chaney’s name, likeness, and other aspects of his persona expired in 2008, but that Universal continues to license his rights.  The suit also alleges that Universal owes Chaney Entertainment for clip licenses since 1994. 

Chaney was perhaps the actor most identified with Universal’s monster movies, playing Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, the Mummy, and the Son of Dracula.
