As a fan of the Tiger & Bunny franchise, I was thrilled to get my hands on the first Tiger and Bunny Comic Anthology. Coming in at over 300 pages, this is a dream release for fans of the characters that they got to know during the TV series, manga and movies.
Essentially this is a release all about the characters living their daily lives as seen through the eyes of dozens of different manga artists. The stories are short (ranging anywhere from 1 page to several pages long) and always have a humorous twist to them but these are still the characters that you grew to love in the original series from Sunrise.
Tiger & Bunny is a lasting hit in Japan and the US, one that will surely be looked back upon fondly in the years to come and the stories told inside this book only prove that point. In every story told within these pages, it's obvious that each one is being created by someone who enjoys the series and loves these characters as much as the fans do. In particular look for the karuta story in the first half of the book created by Min Sakusaka.
However it's there that you run into the primary issue with this book: this is a book by fans, for fans. If you haven't already watched the entire series, there is absolutely no reason why you should or even could care about this book or the characters within it. This isn't a book that expands the universe or even re-introduces it to new fans. This is a book released purely for fans to have a little extra fun with the characters. No more, no less.
If you're already a fan of the Tiger & Bunny franchise, there should be absolutely nothing stopping you from picking up this book. It's cute, clever and filled with laughs and heart. Very recommended!
