French publisher Humanoids Publishing announced the sale of film rights to Enki Bilal's Nikopol Trilogy to Telema, the company responsible for this year's best foreign film nominee, The Taste of Others.  Reportedly Telema will ask artist/writer Enki Bilal, who has directed several films including The Bunker, to direct the film himself.  Though the sale of film rights was handled through Humanoids' Los Angeles office, the film will be produced in Europe, which means producers will not have to worry about the strike situation that clouds Hollywood's future.

Though the film version is still one-to-two years away, the sale of rights puts the spotlight on the Nikopol Trilogy.  A huge international hit, the trilogy has recently been published in a deluxe hardcover English language edition by Humanoids (see Publisher's Weekly Covers Manga, Humanoids').  The first edition of 2,000 copies of the $39.95 title sold out in just a few weeks, and a second edition is going fast.  If you have missed out on this classic science fiction/fantasy title, it's still not too late to bring one in, and if you've sold out, this is a title you should have in stock.
