HBO has announced that True Blood will wrap up in 2014, after a 10-episode seventh season. Like the just-completed sixth season, showrunner Brian Buckner will be leading the cast and crew. Buckner took over for series creator Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) after five seasons.
True Blood was a huge hit for HBO, although it’s now been passed by Game of Thrones (see "'Game of Thrones' Tops Since 'Sopranos'"), which averaged 13.6 million viewers per episode for its third season; True Blood averaged 10.6 million viewers per episode for its sixth season.
Products tied to the series include comics and graphic novels from IDW Publishing, and trading cards from Rittenhouse. Cryptozoic Entertainment will release True Blood: Night Eternal, a card game, this fall.
