The map of the Netherlands is crisscrossed by canals and rivers. To cross them, players must use bridges, which naturally require payment of a "bridge toll." Bridge tolls must be paid to build on the "double routes," and the majority of the routes on the new map are double routes. Bonus points are awarded at game end for unspent bridge toll tokens.
In the announcement, Days of Wonder CEO Eric Hautemont described the new expansion:
"The Bridge Tokens make Ticket to Ride: Nederland really tense right from the start. You need to build routes early, not only to make sure you get the ones you need, but also to have a chance of getting tokens from another player who’ll want to build the same route later. This makes the map a favorite of mine, especially with 4 or 5 players."
Ticket to Ride: Nederland includes one mounted game map, 44 Destination Tickets, bridge toll tokens, and game rules. As an expansion, it requires one of the basic games (Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride: Europe) in order to play. MSRP will be $25.
Ticket to Ride was the second best-selling game in its category in Spring 2012 (see "Top 10 Board Games--Spring 2012").
