Ares Games has announced that its cooperative science fiction board game Galaxy Defenders and its first expansion set Elite Alien Army will release to the trade in November. Ares funded production of the new game through Kickstarter, collecting over $180,000 worth of pledged support, greatly exceeding its $40,000 goal.
Galaxy Defenders is a tactical science fiction board game that pits up to five players fighting together against an alien invasion. The players act as "agents" with unique skills who must work together to thwart the aliens. The aliens, in turn, are controlled using a card-based AI. The game was inspired by the alien invasion movies of the 1980’s and 1990’s, according to its Kickstarter campaign.
The game comes with 28 plastic figures, custom 10-sided dice, and a 12-mission story-driven campaign. The suggested retail price will be $89.90.
An expansion set for the game, Elite Alien Army, will also release in November. This boxed expansion includes “elite” versions of six aliens from the basic game, with enhanced abilities, which can be used to increase the difficulty of the game.
Elite Alien Army will include 10 plastic models and the cards required to add them to the game. The suggested retail price will be $29.90.
Ares Games initially announced its plans for Galaxy Defenders at the GAMA Trade Show in March (see "'Sails of Glory' and 'Galaxy Defenders'").
