Dimension Films has announced that the fourth film in The Crow series, The Crow: Wicked Prayer, will start shooting in Utah in June. The new Crow film is the first to be set in the American southwest. It features Edward Furlong as a young outcast murdered by satanic gang leader Luc Crash, played by TV's Angel, David Boreanaz. Silver screen uber-villain Dennis Hopper plays Boreanaz's evil mentor, who is certain to get his just desserts from a resurrected Furlong. An online review of the script for the new film (by director Lance Mugia and producer Jeff Most) indicates that the Crow #4 will provide more social background on the film's villains, who resent the way the social order in their small Arizona mining town keeps them down.
Since the third film in this series based on comics by James O'Barr went directly to video, the question is, can The Crow: Wicked Prayer get a theatrical release? Certainly the cast of Crow #4 represents an upgrade over the actors in the third film, and David Lea, the stunt coordinator from Daredevil, should bring the action scenes up a notch or two. All indications are that The Crow: Wicked Prayer should be an improvement over its predecessor, but only time will tell if this by now 'vintage' comic property will receive a theatrical sendoff.
