Occasionally we come across a product so perfectly high concept that we cheerfully cross category boundaries to cover it (like ‘Avengers Assemble’ Duck Tape, see "Avengers Stick Together"), and the 50 Cent Star Wars Headphones are such a product. Announced at CES as one of the headphone lines produced by SMS Audio in alliance with rapper 50 Cent, the new limited edition wired headphones come in four versions: Rebel Alliance, Stormtrooper, Galactic Empire, and Boba Fett. Each of the four comes in a different color scheme with different iconography.
Each includes a Star Wars embossed carry case, Star Wars branded removable cable with 3-click mic, Star Wars soft touch cleaning cloth, a 12"x18" Star Wars poster, a sheet of limited edition Star Wars stickers, owners manual, and certificate of authenticity.
These aren’t the first Star Wars headphones; there have been lots of others by Funko, Jazwares, and other companies. But the 50 Cent versions do look like they’re a step above, and will probably be priced accordingly when price and release date are finally announced.
CES was rife with geek culture (see "Lots of Geek Culture on Display at CES").
