Fox has announced several casting choices for the pilot of their Batman prequel series Gotham, including Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, The Penguin and more, according to THR.
Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) has been cast as Jim Gordon, the main protagonist who will one day be police commissioner and partner with the Caped Crusader to rid Gotham of crime and corruption. (Geek note: He also voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2011 animated film Batman: Year One, see "The Best Superhero Cartoon Yet!")
Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers, Camelot) will portray the Gordon family butler Alfred Pennyworth. In this incarnation, the character is a bit more militant--a tough-as-nails ex-Marine from East London who serves Thomas and Martha Wayne, and in the wake of their deaths, is fiercely protective of Bruce.
Robin Lord Taylor (The Walking Dead, Another Earth) will play Oswald Cobblepot, which is the birth name of the Penguin. Zabryna Guevara (Burn Notice) has been cast as Captain Essen, head of the Gotham City Police Department Homicide Unit, who also happens to be rookie officer Gordon’s boss. Erin Richards (Merlin, Being Human) will play Barbara Kean, an ER doctor who is engaged to Gordon.
The Warner Bros. TV pilot is being written and executive produced Bruno Heller, with Danny Cannon directing and executive producing (see "High-Powered Cannon on 'Gotham'").
Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly also recently shared that the series will explore other Batman canon characters (see "Young Bruce Wayne, Villains, in 'Gotham'").
