
The story ties to the real-world $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE global competition, in which 30 teams are competing to develop a mobile device like the Tricorder in Star Trek, capable of capturing health metrics and diagnosing fifteen diseases. A qualifying round is due to be held this year, with the final round in 2017.
The story will be written by Scott and David Tipton.
Set at a Starfleet medical conference, the EMH, Doctors Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir and Katherine Pulaski (with some help from Leonard McCoy and Phlox) must join forces in a race against time to find a cure for a sudden deadly metamorphic virus outbreak. Somehow they discover that the answers lie in another place and time.
