With its hit Afterlife with Archie collection set to hit trade tomorrow, Archie Comics announced it will launch a new ongoing Sabrina the Teenage Witch series in the vein of Afterlife With Archie, and written by the same series writer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.  Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will debut in October.

The series will be written by Aguirre-Sacasa (Marvel Knights: 4, Stephen King The Stand), with art by Robert Hack (Doctor Who Classics).  The horror-centric title promised so show Sabrina "in a way fans have never seen her."

In an interview with USA Today, Aguirre-Sacasa described the title, including sharing that Sabrina’s lineage is a dynasty of witches that goes all the way back to Lilith.  "One day, Sabrina's going to be the most powerful sorceress who's ever lived--Archie's equivalent of Doctor Strange--but right now, she's a 16-year-old girl who's figuring out who she wants to be and if she's going to prom or not."

In this story, Sabrina lives a double life, no one knows she’s a witch, including her boyfriend Harvey Kinkle.  "And the cost of anyone finding out her secret--which happens at the end of the first issue--comes with dire, deadly consequences," Aguirre-Sacasa said.

Sabrina has been undergoing a bit of a revival, with the new Sabrina cartoon on The Hub having recently been renewed for a second season (see "Archie's Jon Goldwater: The ICv2 Interview"), a movie in the works (see "Sony Rebooting 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch'"), and Archie Comics releasing a trade paperback backlist of Sabrina the Teenage Witch Magic Within (see "'Sabrina' Hits the Hub").
